Analytical Issues
- ASTM and EPC Finalize Formaldehyde Test
A new method for measuring free formaldehyde in emulsion polymers was successfully passed by the American Society for Testing Materials in February 1996 and subsequently accepted as ASTM Standard D 5910-96. This new standard fills a gap in the analytical chemistry of emulsion polymers, specifically formaldehyde, and has the added benefit of not disturbing existing formaldehyde equilibria in situ. The adoption of the new standard represents the fruit of hard work and concerted effort on the part of the Emulsion Polymers Council and its member companies.
